Tristan Hazell lives and works in the shadow of the Westway on Portobello Road. What follows is a collection of observations, reviews, social comment, fiction, poetry, art criticism and more. Much of it is fiction and some of it will offend someone somewhere, I hope.

Noel Mclaughlin and a pint of Guinness.

Photograph: Jan Nieupjur.

Anyone who knows Noel of old (the biker black, leather clad, shaded lad) will find this image unrecognisable. Noel, the co-author of the definitive book on Irish rock n roll (Rock and popular music in Ireland: Before and after U2) has gone country on us.... Noel is warming his hands prior to getting to grips with Dolly Parton.

Thank god the Guinness is still there.

I found him at the Cow this afternoon along with a refreshing number of the people who used to make the Cow worth visiting. Everyone is of course far too well known to be mentioned.

I for one thoroughly approve of the nouveau Noel!
